The Truth About Bruising: Why It Happens and What to Do

Let’s be real—no one wants to bruise after Botox or filler. But the truth is, bruising is totally normal, super common, and not a sign something went wrong.

Why Do We Bruise?

Any time a needle enters the skin, there’s a chance it can nick a tiny blood vessel beneath the surface. When that happens, blood leaks into the surrounding tissue, which causes that purplish-blue mark we all know (and hate). Some areas of the face—like under-eyes or lips—are more prone to bruising because the skin is thinner and blood vessels are closer to the surface.

Who’s More Likely to Bruise?

A few things can increase your chances:

  • Taking blood-thinners (even natural ones like fish oil, turmeric, or ibuprofen)

  • Drinking alcohol 24–48 hours before your appointment

  • Being on your period (yes, really—hormones affect everything)

  • Having sensitive or fair skin

How to Prevent and Treat It

While we can’t guarantee a bruise-free experience, there are ways to lower your chances:

  • Avoid blood-thinning meds/supplements for 3–5 days prior (always check with your doc first)

  • Skip alcohol for 24–48 hours pre and post-treatment

  • Use Arnica gel or tablets before and after your appointment

  • Ice immediately after injections (our injectors will help with this!)

  • Sleep with your head elevated that night to reduce swelling

Final Word

A bruise might stick around for a few days, but it doesn’t affect your final results. Just conceal, chill, and trust the process. If you’re ever unsure about what’s normal, we’re always here to chat—DM us or call the front desk anytime!
